About this set

Lingerie models: women in lingerie, lace and satin

Lace is worth photographing for a reason unrelated to what it covers: it holds a highlight along every edge it has. Under a small warm source the pattern picks up a thin bright line and the skin beneath stays soft, so the fabric registers as texture instead of as a flat black shape.

Satin behaves in the opposite way, and both are here in quantity. A slip or a camisole returns one long moving highlight that shifts with the body, which is part of why so many of these are seated, reclining or turned rather than standing square on. A robe left loose over a set puts a third value between the other two.

Tungsten is the constant. It pushes cream toward gold, renders black as a warm brown rather than a neutral, and holds the whole collection inside one narrow warm range no matter who is in front of it. The doorway and balcony pictures are the exceptions: there the light comes from behind, and the picture becomes a question of silhouette.
