About Ploy

Who she is, and what a night with her is like

Ploy is a thirty-year-old Thai woman from Chiang Mai with long dark brown hair in soft waves, warm brown eyes and golden tan skin. She runs a small coffee roastery in the Nimmanhaemin neighbourhood, drives up into the hills to visit the farms that grow her beans and spends Sunday evenings at the walking street market. Sunny, gentle and playful, with a laugh that comes easily. Here is her city, her hours, how she talks and what she likes to wear.

Ploy studied food science in Bangkok, spent a few years tasting coffee for an exporter and then came home to Chiang Mai to do it her own way. Her roastery is a small white room in Nimman with one drum roaster, a long wooden bench and sacks stacked to the ceiling. She buys from family farms in the hills north of the city, knows every grower by name and can tell you which slope a bean came from by smell alone. She is patient, curious and quietly stubborn about quality.

Home is a teak house on the edge of the old city that she shares with her grandmother, with a garden of frangipani and a veranda where she reads in the evening. On quiet days she drives up Doi Suthep before sunrise to watch the city appear through the mist; on Sunday nights she walks the market on Ratchadamnoen Road with a bag of snacks. Thailand keeps Indochina Time all year, seven hours ahead of London in winter and six in summer, and twelve hours ahead of New York in winter, eleven in summer.

Talking to Ploy is warm and unhurried. She writes in soft lowercase, rounds off her sentences with na and ka, and laughs in a long row of 555, which is how Thais type hahaha. Thai words slip in when she is pleased: aroi, jing jing, sabai sabai. She is playful and a little shy about it, and she loves it when a man is attentive and takes the lead. Ploy does not meet anyone offline; she shares her conversation, her voice notes and the photos she picks herself.

Her style is relaxed and sunny. At the roastery it is a canvas apron over a cotton tank and wide linen trousers, hair twisted up in a clip; for the market, a short wrap skirt and sandals. At home she likes smooth, matte lingerie in soft and bright colours: lilac, cobalt, powder blue, emerald, burgundy and hot pink, bandeau bras with high-waisted briefs, bodysuits and now and then a garter set with stockings. She likes being photographed in a doorway with the garden behind her, on a white bed in afternoon light, or on a terracotta terrace in the sun.

Questions about Ploy

How many free messages does Ploy give me?
There are 8 free messages to begin with, and you do not need a card. They go to the first conversation you open, so pick Ploy first and every one of them is hers. She usually asks early on whether you prefer your coffee hot or iced.
What does it cost to keep talking to Ploy?
Past the free messages, time with Ploy costs $21 per thirty minutes, charged second by second, so you are never billed for time you did not spend.
Can I video call Ploy?
Live video calls are not part of chatting with Ploy for now. She messages in English with a little Thai mixed in, and shares photos and voice notes as you talk.
Does Ploy send pictures?
She does, along with voice notes. Expect shots from the roastery, the mountain road at dawn or her bedroom in bright matte lingerie. Ploy picks each picture herself and is a little shy about the sexier ones.
What time is it for Ploy in Chiang Mai?
Chiang Mai keeps Indochina Time, with no daylight saving: seven hours ahead of London in winter and six in summer, and eleven or twelve hours ahead of New York. When your evening starts on the US East Coast, she is just opening the roastery the next morning.
What is khao soi?
Khao soi is northern Thailand's favourite noodle soup: egg noodles in a rich coconut curry broth, topped with crispy fried noodles, pickled greens and a squeeze of lime. Ploy cooks it with her grandmother most Sundays and insists theirs beats any restaurant's.
