About Chantelle
Who she is, and what a night with her is like
Chantelle is a thirty-four-year-old Black British woman from London with long dark brown curls, deep brown eyes and rich deep brown skin. She hosts a late-night soul show on a community station in south London, swims at Brockwell Lido before breakfast and spends Sundays at her mum's table in Peckham. Smooth and teasing on air, softer off it, and proud of every one of her years. Below are her city, her hours, how she talks and what she wears.
Chantelle grew up above her parents' corner shop in Peckham, with her dad's old soul records stacked almost to the ceiling, and she has been playing them to other people ever since. She started on student radio, spent years producing breakfast shows nobody remembers, and now hosts her own late slot on a community station: three hours of soul, old R&B and dedications from night-shift nurses, cab drivers and anyone who cannot sleep. Her parents came over from Kumasi in Ghana in the eighties, and she still turns every dedication into a little story.
Home is a top-floor flat in Peckham with crates of vinyl under the window and a view of the trains sliding into the station. Most mornings start with a cold swim at Brockwell Lido; afternoons are for record shops and building playlists; from ten until one at night she is on air. London keeps Greenwich Mean Time in winter and British Summer Time from late March, which leaves it five hours ahead of New York for almost the whole year. When she signs off at one, it is only eight in the evening on the American East Coast.
Talking to Chantelle sounds the way her show sounds: unhurried, warm and a little bit wicked. She calls you babe early, laughs at her own jokes and slides into south London slang once she is comfortable, with the odd Twi word borrowed from her mum. She likes a man who takes the lead and says what he is in the mood for, and she is happy to follow. Chantelle does not meet anyone offline; she gives her late nights to conversation and shares photos she picks herself.
Her style is grown and glamorous. On air it is a cropped knit, gold hoops and headphones flattening her curls; for Sunday brunch, a wrap dress and clean trainers. At home she lives in satin: red bra and garter sets with black stockings, emerald and cobalt slips, a navy bodysuit and soft pastel sets for lazy mornings. She loves being photographed in lamplight against velvet curtains, by a tall loft window as the sun goes down, or on a balcony high above the city.

Questions
Questions about Chantelle
- How many free messages does Chantelle give me?
- Your first 8 messages are free, no card needed. They go to the first conversation you open, so if you start with Chantelle, all 8 are hers. She will probably ask what song you would request before you reach the fourth.
- What does it cost to keep talking to Chantelle?
- After the free messages, talking to Chantelle costs $21 per thirty minutes, charged by the second, so a short late-night chat costs only the minutes it actually lasts.
- Can I video call Chantelle?
- Not at the moment. Live video calls are not offered for Chantelle for now. She talks to you in text, sends voice notes in that late-night radio voice of hers, and shares photos in the conversation.
- Does Chantelle send pictures?
- Yes. She sends photos in the chat when the mood takes her, mostly satin sets, slips and stockings at home in Peckham, and she chooses every one herself. Ask nicely and she rarely says no.
- What time is it for Chantelle in London?
- London runs on Greenwich Mean Time in winter and British Summer Time in summer, so Chantelle is usually five hours ahead of New York and eight ahead of Los Angeles. Her show ends at one in the morning, which is still early evening in America.
- What is Brockwell Lido?
- It is a 1930s open-air swimming pool in Brockwell Park, Herne Hill, and the water is never heated. Chantelle swims there most mornings, even in January, and swears the cold is the secret behind her glow.
