Bikini model photos

Bikini models is the only collection here shot entirely outdoors, which is also why it is the smallest. Every other set could be assembled inside a room. This one needed sand, water and a specific hour of the afternoon, and most of the women on the site turn up in it.

About this set

Bikini model photos

Sand does something no light stand can. It throws a broad, soft fill back up from underneath, opening the shadow beneath the chin and along the collarbone with no reflector anywhere near the frame, and water adds a second, cooler bounce from the side. Between them, nothing here needed a key at all.

The frames went wide as a result. Full length, feet in the sand or at the edge of the water, a horizon somewhere behind — crop in close and you throw away the thing that is doing the lighting.

Wardrobe stays pale on purpose. White, cream, beige and coral on lit skin hold a picture inside a narrow band of tone, which flatters and forgives in equal measure. Black is the exception, and it appears where the daylight is flat and hard enough to carry it. Seven contributors means the range of colouring is wider than the number of pictures suggests.
