Red turns up in close to half of these and never as an accent. Red lace, red velvet, red satin, a ribbed two-piece, high-waisted shorts, a robe — in each of those frames the garment is the loudest object present, and was meant to be.
The purple behind it comes from practicals, not from a gel on a key: lamps and strips already in the room, bouncing off paint, which is why it falls away so quickly toward the edges. Red against purple is an awkward pairing because the two sit close in value, so separation has to come from skin, which stays the brightest surface between them.
Where colour is not doing the work, architecture is. Doorways do the framing twice over, one rectangle inside another. A rail at night puts distant lights a long way back. A white crop top in plain daylight and a shot taken through a car window are the only two frames that let the palette go quiet.
