The daylight half is the Adriatic — black, red, white, green and navy bikinis on stone piers, pebble beaches, boat decks and the rocks under old city walls, in sun nobody has softened and turquoise water behind. The indoor half is darker and closer: black lace and black satin, garter straps and stockings, an open robe in a doorway or beside an arched stone window, lit from one side at dusk. Long dark hair runs through nearly every frame. Search the phrase elsewhere and you mostly get travel photography; this is the same coastline with somebody living on it. About this set

Croatian women from Split, Dubrovnik and Zadar

Bikinis account for a third of the frames, higher than any other heritage page here, and the reason is the light rather than the wardrobe. Adriatic sun at the wrong hour is a hard, contrast-heavy source that most sets avoid. Here it is used straight, so shadow falls sharp under the collarbone and the sea behind goes almost black by comparison.

Green runs through everything — a greenhouse, green rows at golden hour, olive ground, and separately a run of emerald satin indoors. It is the one colour tying the coastal frames to the interior ones, and it is why the page does not read as two unrelated shoots stapled together.

Where it moves inside it goes cold rather than warm: rain on a porch, a storm watched from under a terrace roof, snow at a chalet. That is the opposite instinct to the Serbian set, and the quickest way to tell these two pages apart at a glance.
